Tell us a bit about insincere. How did you guys meet and what made you decide to form this trio?
Orlando Soundy : We are a group of 3 boys from London who make music we want to hear – whether that be for going to a motive, skating or for when we feeling down we just do it for ourselves. We’ve had a bit of a bumpy ride in terms of forming the trio. It started with just Alex and I, when we were given a school project not intended for music. But we flipped it and decided to make a song. Then GG joined but later left. We all took some time off after that but then bumped into each other in the studio where we thought we would get things up and running again, as a trio. Since then, we’ve just been making song after song, kind of like trial and error and trying not to overthink anything.
Where did the name come from?
Alex Coulson: I can’t make where the name came from sound any cooler than it is. Soundy suggested ‘sincere’ to me and I then replied ‘insincere’. The ironic fact that we are all quite genuine and sincere people is about as deep as it gets… people can search for deeper meaning if they want to hahah.
How did you all get involved with music and when did you realise it was something you wanted to pursue?
Alex Coulson: Personally, I’ve just always been obsessed in making things – not just music-literally anything but with me growing up playing countless instruments and being surrounded by music, making tunes seemed the best form of expression and the most advanced of my “creations”. I know Grace has always just been writing since way back and formatting his words into music made sense and Soundy has always had a talented voice which he’s used to make songs from very young too. I guess the overwhelming support from our first single just made us all realise shit we could actually do something here.
How would you describe your music and who/ what are some of your inspirations?
Grace Glover: Our music’s weird man. Ah mean we are starting with the sound people expect from us – a uk chill rap, indie pop and hip-hop blend but some of our unreleased stuff is super different. I think we struggled with having three “music lovers” with different ideas as to how a song should sound but now we are just embracing it and really practicing our versatility and differences. As to inspirations: London, being kids, day to day life - I could list countless – as to someone, right now, gotta be dominic fike.
What is your favourite thing about creating music?
Orlando Soundy: See, this one’s a tricky one for me cause I don’t think I can pinpoint a single thing. Obviously, the vibes in the studio are always so sick; a lot of joking around and generally pissing about without too much pressure on the outcome cause that’s when our best songs are made. But probably most importantly for me is its use as an outlet. To speak what I otherwise might not speak about. And to just dump all my thoughts out of my head and onto a logic file which is something I’m really grateful to have in all honesty.
Tell us about the new songs you’ve released.
Grace Glover: ikylm is a song I wrote for a couple different people, I won’t name names but it’s just a tune to tell people they’re ok. Special – I won’t speak for Soundy cos I know his verse is deeper than mine but that is us just fucking about and talking about girls who think they’re the shit because of what they look like. 3f is deeper and is about clocking that we literally have three mates and that we don’t want anymore. I don’t trust anyone with more than ten friends.
What are your future plans? Will you be releasing a whole album?
Grace Glover: About six months ago we made an album and finished it and basically every song got better and better and so 11/12 of the album we hated. So we scrapped it and now basically just pick from about 30 unreleased songs which ones we wanna release. I think until we fully have a concept we won’t do an album. For now it’s just a selection of singles and EPs but as unorganised as it sounds there is a plan – I won’t disclose but it’s cool. Like really cool.
